Frequently Asked Questions · FAQ
Discover routes along the Way of Saint James and other cycling routes, and find the perfect option for your bike hire.
Can I extend my rental? If I return early, will I get a refund?
Yes, you can easily extend your hire if you need more days. Just let us know in advance so we can confirm availability and adjust the dates.
If you return the bike earlier than planned, we do not offer refunds for unused days, as the bike has been reserved for the duration of the hire and cannot be made available for other bookings; however, we always try to offer a flexible solution if any unforeseen circumstances arise during your Way.
Is there a deposit or security deposit required?
Yes. Before setting off on the Way, a deposit of €200 per bike is required, which is refunded in full at the end of the hire period, once we have checked that the equipment has been returned in good condition.
Don’t worry: normal wear and tear or minor incidents that are typical of the Way will not affect the refund of your deposit. This deposit is simply a guarantee that the equipment will be looked after properly during your trip.
What payment methods do you accept?
You can pay easily by credit or debit card, or, if you prefer, by bank transfer.
Once your booking has been confirmed, we will send you all the details to ensure the process is quick and secure.
Can I make a booking by paying a deposit?
Yes. To confirm your booking, we require a deposit of 20% of the total rental cost.
The remaining balance and the security deposit (€200 per bike) are payable one week before the start of the Way.
What is the returns policy?
We offer a full refund if you cancel your booking at least 10 days in advance, provided the bike has not yet been dispatched.
If the equipment has already been prepared and dispatched, the relevant handling, preparation and delivery charges will be deducted.
Our aim is to be flexible and fair, as we understand that unforeseen circumstances can sometimes arise before you set off on the Way.
Bicycle logistics
The bikes will be delivered directly to your accommodation a few days before you start the Way. It is important that your accommodation has space to store them and can receive the delivery.
If your accommodation cannot accommodate this, we can arrange for delivery to a partner shop (if there is one in the area) at an additional cost of €20, or you can look for alternative accommodation.
Delivery to any location on the mainland and return to Santiago are included in the price.
If the bike is sent by courier, once you’ve taken it out of the box, all you need to do is:
Set the handlebars to a straight position and tighten the side bolts.
Fit the pedals, which are colour-coded: green (right) and red (left).
💡 Tip: the pedals are tightened forwards and loosened backwards.
If we deliver the bike in person, it will already be ready to ride.
In Santiago, the bike can be returned to the Post Office 150 metres from the Cathedral (Rúa do Franco 4), or if you’d prefer us to collect it from your accommodation, this would be from 6.30 pm. Neither of these options incurs any additional cost.
Can a bike be returned outside Santiago?
Yes, this is possible, but there is an additional charge. You must contact us in advance to arrange the return, either by leaving it at a partner shop or at your accommodation so that we can collect it.
- Return to Fisterra or Muxía: €30
- Return to locations other than Santiago, Fisterra or Muxía: €50
What is included in the rent?
The hire includes:
- Delivery at the start of the route in Spain and Portugal, and collection and return in Santiago.
- Thule luggage rack and waterproof Ortlieb Roller Classic panniers (20 litres each).
- Multi-tool kit (multi-purpose spanner, tyre levers, inner tube, derailleur hanger, chain link and charging cable for rear light).
- Rear light, lock, bell, oil and pump.
- Third-party liability insurance and travel assistance.
Available extras: helmet, Pilgrim’s Credential, gel saddle cover and toe clips or toe straps.
You can also choose between three types of pedals: standard platform, Shimano mixed and Shimano clipless.
What happens if my car breaks down on the way?
We’re always on hand to help you and resolve any issues that may arise during your ride. The first thing to do is give us a call to explain what’s happened so we can work out the best solution.
If you need to visit a repair shop, we’ll arrange a taxi to take you to the nearest one to have your bike repaired. If the repair cannot be completed on the same day, we’ll provide you with another equivalent bike so you can continue the next day.
Our aim is for you to feel safe and supported throughout the Way, and to enjoy the experience until you reach your destination. You’ll never be alone; you’ll always have support.
What does the support include?
Support is fully included in the hire price. We offer comprehensive support throughout the Way.
Should you need to be taken to a repair shop, our insurance will cover a taxi to take you to the nearest one.
Although problems rarely arise during the route, you can always count on our support should anything unexpected happen.
